Why poppy seeds banned

Also known as khus khus , poppy seeds form a popular spice in routine use in Indian cooking, but the seeds are banned in the UAE and several Arabian Gulf countries. A UAE Government website advises visitors against carrying anything that has poppy seeds in it. Carrying the banned substance can result in a four-year jail sentence and deportation for expatriates. Despite several warnings in India and the UAE, Mr Kumar said many people were not aware of the dangers of carrying khus khus.

Last year, a year-old Indian was sentenced to four years in prison for carrying grams of the seeds. He told the court that he did not know they were banned and had brought them along with spices meant to cook biryani.

The original Mountain Dew was banned around the world due to its brominated vegetable oil BVO content. BVO was first patented as a flame retardant, but was used for decades as an emulsifier in American carbonated drinks.

The problem is bromine which is toxic and corrosive in vapour form and research has shown that it builds up in the body over time.

Mountain Dew has since reformulated its product without BVO. This is largely due to their opiate content, although only one poppy papaver somniferum can make this claim. Another French favourite, foie gras is illegal in India and until recently San Paulo overturned in This is also the case in other European countries.

The samosa presents a religious conflict in Somalia. The three-pointed triangle is considered representative of the Christian Holy Trinity by Al-Shabaab Islamist Extremists so they banned samosas in the areas they control in The nonprofit nutrition and food safety watchdog group on Feb.

Poppy seeds used in baking come from the same plant that produces opiates, including morphine and codeine. The poppy plant cannot be legally grown in the United States, meaning all poppy seeds sold in this country are imported from countries where cultivation is permitted.

While the seeds themselves contain negligible amounts of opiates, they can be contaminated with plant debris and require washing and processing to reduce opiate contamination to safe levels. This tea is typically used for medicinal, therapeutic, or recreational purposes and can concentrate the opiates from a batch of seeds.

Consumers of these seeds may not be aware that the effects from the consumption of the seeds may be because of opiates.
