What is 2k11 association mode
This game is available through OnLive. The game introduces some new features, several of which involve cover athlete Michael Jordan. The "Jordan Challenge" is a game mode that follows ten of Jordan's career accomplishments. As Jordan completes seasons during the mode, players will see his appearance change as he ages.
This mode is unlocked after completing all of the Jordan Challenges. As part of the "My Jordans" feature, users will be awarded pairs of Air Jordans for hitting game milestones and accomplishments. Collect the entire line of Air Jordan shoes that MJ wore throughout his career and gain specific attribute bonuses when you have them equipped.
The only real problem is Turkoglu, but he's the best you can get even when he declines. Just be sure to trade him for something before his player option, and perhaps use the draft to get a small forward.
In the first year you can also trade away Turkoglu and all your draft picks for Shawn Marion and Peja Stojakovic, but this is perhaps just a small upgrade. Oklahoma City Thunder The Thunder are pretty much set - they have a good young nucleus and a decent bench. We can make the team a littl better by trading Nate Robinson getting older only 2 years left , Cole Aldrich pretty useless in this game , and Nazr Mohammed 1 year, old, just to make money even for David Lee, Dorrell Wright, and their second round pick.
Now they will want to get rid of Lee anyway, but he's an upgrade from Ibaka and we need another small forward in the mix so Wright is a good call. You will have some rotation and morale problems, but those are only for players that are years away from the end of their contract and some won't take it as bad as others.
Speaking of the rotation, have Ibaka play Center and put Perkins as the seventh man. This will make your team the seventh best team. There's not much more that can be done here without trading young starters, so sim a few seasons and see how you do - you might just win a championship in a year or two, especially when you consider the young developing talent.
Resign Russell Westbrook and James Harden at all costs or trade them in their contract year. Kevin Durant might get a little snippety and want to opt for free agency when his contract is up, so watch out for that. Either trade him away on his contract year or give him the cash. Los Angeles Lakers The Lakers won the championship last year, so it goes without saying that you don't need to do much in their association.
You can do a little housecleaning if you want and rid yourself of the Luke Walton and Steve Blake contracts, but you are so over the cap it won't make much of a difference. The only thing you can do in the trade finder is trade away your rookies for an established player. I sometimes trade Ebanks and Caracter for Jason Richardson, but he's only a moderate, immediate upgrade.
You can do whatever you like, as Ebanks will become a decent player in the future. Rotation problems are aplenty. You can keep it at what it's at to keep happiness up, or you can switch Lamar Odom with Ron Artest to go "big. With this setup, you will become the number one ranked team at a 91 overall rating. Washington Wizards The Wizards are a rebuilding franchise. They aren't as tough as the Pistons or Raptors because they have a few great young pieces and a lot of players with stars, but they are still one of the tougher franchises to control.
I don't consider any wacky trades with John Wall, but that option is always open to you, of course. Rashard Lewis, though a prolific scorer, has a huge contract. We need to solve these problems as well as sign a few free agents. Sadly, you can't get much for Rashard Lewis. However, since Wilson Chandler is becoming a free agent at the end of the year, we need to clear cap space for a same position player with better statistics.
Remember we need to clear cap space, okay? Next I sign Azubuike from the free agent to a three year deal and also Larry Hughes to a one year deal. Now trade away Gomes and the T'Wolves second round pick for the Kings' second round pick. This is a good trade because of the talented draft class you most likely have loaded for the season.
Now instead of having only two good young players, you have four. This is a good thing because three of them will develop into the 80s, while Wall should be in the low 90s after a few years. Sim the season and draft for the best player.
Trade said player if he is not a power forward with Blatche for a power forward. Optionally, get Wilson Chandler in free agency. You have five good young players now, all of which are loyal and have no reason not to leave the team. Be sure to see if they are willing to resign or not, and trade them at the deadline for comparable players if under contract thoughts they say they won't resign. You also have a good bench with Booker and Crawford, but also look at trading them away during their contract year for comparable players if they don't look like they will resign.
Detroit Pistons This is one of the hardest franchises to play in the association. You also have a lot of players that will get better, but most of them are middle aged for the NBA and will go downhill the next season.
The good thing about the Pistons is a lot of their players have some trade value. This is in stark opposite to, say, the Nets, who only have three players with more than one stars. The Pistons, on the other hand, only have three players with one star. Sadly, most of the multiple star players are, again, old and passed their prime. We need to trade them away for young players because we don't have a shot at even the playoffs with the current roster.
I keep only Rodney Stuckey because he is the young nucleus for the team. Love is young, very loyal, and doesn't have high play for winner aspirations.
This is a pretty even trade - even though McGrady and Prince are scorers, they are old and both have expiring contracts. Deng and Gibson have years on their contracts. Now trade Jerekbo expiring contract , Gomes medium sized 3 year contract, middle aged , and your second round pick to the 76ers for Craig Brackins long contract and Songaila just there to even up the money.
He is a rookie and has a four year contract; he will only get better for a long time. We're almost done now. Now we're done; it's time to simulate. We're marginally better up two spots , but it is the draft and time itself that will put us over the top. Simulate the season - we just improved our record over last year and were at the 8th spot seed for most of the year but finished in 11th place. We had a first and second all-rookie team player, but Ben Wallace did win defensive player of the year probably because he was on an even worse team.
Simulate the playoffs and work on the staff contracts. Resign the trainer and get a better coach. Accept White's contract. Resign Stuckey if you can. In my game I had to wait until free agency. Don't resign anyone else because they're all old.
I got the number one pick by luck, so your mileage may vary for the draft. Speaking of which, as always choose the best player with the highest potential. Potential is key and can jack up trade value. Also if he's a Center and decent, it makes his trade value skyrocket. Sign both of your rookies and even if they second rounder is bad. He is good for cap space and can be put down to the D-League if needed. Extend Stuckey a qualifying offer so you can get him if you haven't already.
Get him during free agency if you haven't already. Now you should be rated around 81 after messing with the rotation. This is still not good enough to make the playoffs probably, but you have built a solid team that will consistently make the playoffs in years to come. Just remember to resign core players or trade them away if they say under contract thoughts that they might become free agents if they are unrestricted. For me, Love didn't go to free agency and didn't want a huge amount of money.
I had to trade away my star rookie because he wasn't loyal, though, and picked up a similar rookie with year on his contract. This ends the strategy - get a young team and wait a few years for them to develop before making the playoffs. Boston Celtics There's not much to say here; they are the best team in the game currently. You only have a few more years with the big three, though, but trading them is not an option, nor is it a wise move as you'll probably get nothing good for them.
You could trade Avery Bradley for something more developed, but then you wouldn't have any young players. Since this is an association, we also look at the future as well as the present. This trade is good because Wright is a lot better than the two of them, he's young, and he has three years on his contract.
Other than that, all you can really do is simulate and see if you win for the next few years. You can't do much else here; not much else to say. You might hit a roadblock with the Miami Heat, but then you might not; it's up to the computer simulation for that.
Charlotte Bobcats This team needs a lot of work. Then we gotta trade away Matt Carroll's disgusting contract. I trade him, Boris Diaw big big contract , and my second round pick to the Wizards for Jason Kapono and Darius Songalia, both of which have expiring contracts. Next get Azubuike from the free agent list for a three year deal and trade him and Desgana Diop big contract with player option to the Thunder for Eric Maynour and Nick Collison don't worry, his contract gets small.
You now have a team with a lot of expiring contracts, so you can raid the free agent list at the end of the season. You also have a mediocre starting lineup well, bad right now that features four low 70s players and one 67 player. This lineup gets you through the season and a good draft pick.
Speaking of which, the Wizards hopefully will do bad this season, so you have their pick as well. Draft the best player for the draft. You could get two top five picks with the Wizards' and Bobcats' chances.
I can't stress this enough, especially for this team, but always draft the best player and not a player you need at a position. You can always trade the rookie away if need be, and more trade value is more trade value. Don't resign any aging veterans because they're old and only get worse. With your rookies, the core team you already have, and a few free agents, you should have a good time in a couple years. To make it to the championship, though, you'll probably need great rookies and the like, along with Paul or Westbrook and another low 90s player, of which you won't be able to get from your current starting five.
Milwaukee Bucks Despite having good bookends Andrew Bogut and Brandon Jennings , this team isn't rated very well. To start, we need to trade away all of our veterans that are hogging up cap space.
This is another trade to free cap space. Michael Redd is next on the list, but you don't have to trade him if you don't want to because he has an expiring contract. You can also optionally trade away David Lee now to really free up cap space. If it looks like you won't win it, you can trade away Jennings for something or deal with resigning him during free agency in the offseason, since he often likes to enter free agency.
Chicago Bulls You don't need a strategy for the Bulls - they are a top team, a contender by default. All they need is a star shooting guard and they have a repeat team.
You can pick up Azubuike on the free agent list to remedy this, though Bogans might miss his starting spot. Or you could just use Brewer, who is already on your team and has stellar defense.
And we all know defense wins championships, right? Sadly, two of your starting five aren't great at defense, but they are great offensive players to make up for it. I'm talking about Carlos Boozer and Luol Deng. Boozer's contract looks less and less good as the years go on, but he won't go down too much by the end of his contract.
Derrick Rose always seems to resign during the first period, to the dismay of me when I play any other team. Korver has an ugly contract, but the game made him much better and he's great at three pointers. You have a few really bad players Lucas, Scalabrine who can be replaced by D-Leaguers, also. Cleveland Cavaliers We need to completely rebuild this team. Sans LeBron James, this is one of the worst teams rated as 25th best and we have some old people hogging cap space.
Ibaka slowly develops, but at least he doesn't get worse like Jamison. This is another trade to make you younger. Varejao has a huge contract, so trade him to the Nets for Gadzuric and their 2nd round pick.
This frees up cap space in later years. Change your rotation so you have your best players at each of the starting positions. This is optional, and it could ruin ratings for starters-turned- benchers, but in the end it might give you a slightly better team. I was ranked 23rd after all of these changes, up two spots. We're getting better. Send Erden and Harangody down to the D-League.
They are the worst players that can go down to the D-League. Now get Azubuike and Hughes off the free agent list. Trade them and the Nets 2nd round pick to the Warriors for Dorell Wright, Louis Amundson, and their 2nd round pick. Now if you alter the lineup for the best possible players at starting positions, we are the 20th ranked team. This is up a lot from 25, but still pretty bad. However, you have a team of players with starters all under 24, and expiring contracts of old players to free cap space.
You just need to do the usual now - simulate the season, sign staff, resign the young good players, get the best possible players in the draft, and get good free agents. You will also accrue a worse record without Chandler, which you can use to get another good draft pick. For my game, I traded up to the number one pick and got a beast of a center rated at 78 with great potential.
I signed Chris Paul the next year and the two of them dominated along with the players that we previously traded for. With all these players, you should definitely make the playoffs, and maybe even a championship. In fact, they actually have quite a good team right off the bat, and after development even better. However, they don't have much of a chance I've never seen it of winning the whole thing their first year, so we rip down the building by making a few key trades to get rid of aging players.
First we need to sign Azubuike from the free agent list. Love can double as a center, so don't worry about him conflicting with Griffin. One of them can play Center. This is definitely not ideal, but it's better than Kaman going down and down in overall rating each year. Get Larry Hughes from the free agent list now.
Ridnour's just there because he's, well, just there. We can make the rotation work out, trust me. Before we do, make another trade - send Ryan Gomes, Randy Foye, and your 1st round pick to the Wizards for their 1st round pick!!
Or, if you have a stacked draft class, instead of your first round trade your one along with your 2nd round and add Shakur to the Wizard's end. Okay, now as far as lineup, put Gordon at the 1, Johnson at the 2, Aminu at the 3, Love at the 4, and Griffin at the 5. Definitely not ideal, but it will work. You have a great draft pick, you are ranked 14th, and you have a ton of cap space for say a Wilson Chandler. Memphis Grizzlies The Grizzlies have a great team already, and they made it pretty far in the playoffs in real life, AND they can win a championship with their current team in a few years, so it makes little sense to tear apart the team.
This is a good trade because Randolph probably won't sign with you and if he does, he'll want a ton of money and you get 2 good players one rated the same as Randolph but younger with plenty of years on their contracts. Despite losing a lot defensively, this trade gives you basically Udoh with 4 years for Battier with 1 year.
It is a good trade because of this, and since we probably won't be winning a championship this year, we have time for Udoh to develop into a good player. Now your team will be positively stacked in a few years. With Conley, Mayo, Gay, Gasol, and eww Lee, along with a great bench, you should have no problem winning a championship. Just remember to resign Gasol to a max contract at the end of the season and sim away. You should be making it far in the playoffs consistently with this group.
Atlanta Hawks Don't let a 15th overall ranking fool you, they will make the playoffs consistently. They have their good players locked up already, but you might lose Josh Smith I usually get him on other teams during free agency, too so trade him away if it looks like he won't resign.
Other than that, keep your current team and sim the seasons. Miami Heat Another team that doesn't need much of a "strategy. You just have to live with it, though, since you might get a championship that year. Try to resign as best you can. As for the non-big three players, you are pretty much stuck with them declining in rating. Ilgauskas retires after the year sometimes, and the rest of your decent players go down in rating.
You can only trade them for worse players, so you are best off just keeping them. Rememer to resign Chalmers! New Orleans Hornets Paul never uses his player option, but you may still be able to get him to resign. He's somewhat loyal, but at the same time he's pivotal to your team.
Since he never uses his option and often signs with another team, you should consider trading him during the second season for a great young player with years on his contract.
But still, there is a chance he might sign with you. He's a solid defender. Now get Azubuike signed to a three year deal off the free agent list by using your MLE. David Lee is so underrated in this game it's crazy, but that's mostly because the Warriors want to get rid of him. That's pretty much all you can do without trading players with multiple years, so sim the season now.
You should make the playoffs. Don't accept David Andersen's option. Gray usually accepts his player option.
After the offseason tasks send Ariza to training camps , you may have to trade Paul if he says he won't resign. However, with David Lee on our team, the chances are better he will resign since we have a winning team.
Utah Jazz No real "problem" contracts here and not a lot of trades to make. You can stick with your current team and trade on contract years, or use my strategy. Jefferson is kind of overrated in this game; Noah has similar rating and potential and yet is only valued at four stars, for instance. With Evans and Favors, we have a low 90s player and a high 80s player in the future. Next I trade Kirilenko expiring contract and won't resign and Kelenna Azubuike after signing him from the free agent list and the Jazz' first round pick for Wesley Johnson and Sebastian Telfair.
Trading old for young is awesome although you do lose your first round pick. Holiday is a good point guard and Brand has trade value. Trade Brand right away while he is still one and a half stars! This is certainly the lineup of the future! Also, they have years left on their contracts. Do the usual 'trade away during expiring year' thing if says under contract thoughts that they don't want to sign with you. Other than that, you have a young team that should win a few championships in the future.
New York Knicks Ranked 12th overall, they have a chance to win it right away. Carmelo never accepts his player option, though, so you might want to trade him during the last contract year.
Turiaf is a serviceable Center and we can live with his two year he always accepts his player option contract. Landry Fields is a big problem. Because he was picked so low in the draft, he only has two years on his contract. He develops into a low 80s player, so be sure to resign him at any cost.
That's pretty much it for the Knicks. They have a great team already with two prolific scorers and one rising star. The team has the Turiaf contract problem, but it only lasts two years, so it's pretty okay. Dallas Mavericks You can't do anything with them besides simulate basically. They have a full team already with lots of good bench players.
The roster update really pumped them up. The only problem is Haywood's contract and the low trade value of all the players. New Jersey Nets This team needs a lot of work. Only three players have more than one star! Deron Williams is great and all, but he will be old by the time we get a championship. Westbrook has a lot of years on his biological clock while Williams does not. Five years make a big difference in this game. That's pretty much it - with Westbrook, Paul, Fields, and Lopez, you should be doing great.
This is all a few years later, however. You also need to lose Petro and Outlaw. Denver Nuggets It's hard to trade anyone because they are the 8th best team. You can trade Nene, Chandler, Martin, Smith, and Afflalo if you want because they all have expiring contracts, but this will probably ruin your chances at the playoffs. I only recommend getting rid of Chris Andersen - old, big contract, and not very good, even for a Center.
Indiana Pacers The Pacers are pretty bad in this game, but that doesn't mean they won't get better. In fact, they become one of the best teams in the game if you just hold onto what you have and make a few trades. This is just all-around a good trade. You can win championships with this team in a few years. There's not much more to say, besides that you need to trade them away before they decide to sign with someone else - use the trade deadline and contract thoughts section to handle this.
Houston Rockets Depending on if you play with injuries or not, this could be a great team. Yao Ming will definitely resign with you which is a big plus.
The team is old, but they are good and even have a good rookie in Patrick Patterson. Their first question when we called was did we buy "insurance". Of course not. The idea of the disc going bad after 3 months with no recourse really makes me angry.
Am I stuck? Guys do not trade away Kevin Martin. He is the best offensive player in the game. And has Been crazy Clutch in the game. With a sprained wrist. I swear I'm not bs'ing.
